Mai Chau is located west of Hanoi, at the end of Hoa Binh province and adjacent to Moc Chau, Son La, and Pu Luong of Thanh Hoa. The district is located about 130km from the center of Hanoi, it takes 4 hours to get there by motorbike, 3 hours by car.

Although it is a highland district, Mai Chau is a valley surrounded by massive limestone ranges. This place has peaceful natural beauty of green forests, rice fields laden with grains, and many small, quietly flowing streams.
